UNIVERSITY OF LODZ INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTRE FOR URBAN STUDIES
The University of Lodz Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Studies was established by the Resolution of the Senate of 16 February 2015 at the request of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz. It consists of the faculties of the University of Lodz that deal in their research with broadly understood urban topics: Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, Faculty of Economics and Sociology, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Philosophy and History, Faculty of Geographical Sciences, Faculty of International and Political Studies and Faculty of Management.
The mission of the Centre is:
- to conduct interdisciplinary research on the verge of sociology, history, geography, anthropology, history of literature, linguistics and other disciplines of knowledge, in particular those concerning the phenomenon of urbanity, memory and urban culture, urban social groups and actors, as well as legal frameworks and mechanisms of functioning of urban organisms and their financing,
- to develop domestic and foreign cooperation – participation in scientific and research projects, exchanges and cooperation networks, organising seminars, conferences, scientific and popular science meetings aiming at building the environment of urban researchers in Lodz and Poland, as well as the development of international contacts,
- to build cross-sectoral cooperation with city governments, non-governmental organisations, cultural institutions, business; to disseminate the subject of urban studies and the results of the Centre's work in the academic environment, media, among the city residents, using, apart from typically scientific activities (conferences, publications), also other activities in the city space,
- to perform popular science activities in cooperation with public institutions and the non-governmental sector,
- to carry out documentation work.
Prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Markowski exercises the function of the Head of the Centre and its activities are supervised by the Scientific Council appointed by representatives of the deans of the Faculties that make up the Centre.

PUBLICATIONS AND MATERIALS
Thanks to the efforts of the University of Lodz Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Studies, in 2018 the Lodz University Press inaugurated the Interdyscyplinarne Studia Miejskie [Interdisciplinary Urban Studies] publishing series. The series presents the latest research achievements in the field of innovative and multidimensional view of the city. As its part compendia, monographs, collective works and analyses discussing urban issues by linguists, geographers, historians, economists, sociologists, urban planners, naturalists, specialists in the field of regional management and representatives of other disciplines of knowledge are published. The richness and diversity of perspectives allows for capturing the different faces of the city in an accessible and engaging way for a wide audience.

Lodz Metropolitan Area Association
Lodz Metropolitan Area Association is made of thirty-one local self-government units of five districts: the City of Lodz, Brzeziny, Lodz – East, Pabianice and Zgierz, while the main goal of the association is to support the socio-economic development of the Lodz Metropolitan Area. Lodz Metropolitan Area Association also acts as a so-called ITI Association in Lodz (Integrated Territorial Investment).
